Fundamentals of Permanent Makeup Course
This accredited beginner course combines comprehensive theory with hands-on, live model training to give you the foundation every successful PMU artist needs. Students completing this program will learn 2 brow techniques: Powder Ombre Brows & 3D Combination Brows. You’ll also learn the core principles of color theory, skin anatomy, machine techniques, and sanitation, plus how to design and execute natural, long-lasting results.
By graduation, you’ll earn an official Certificate of Completion and be equipped with the tools, safety knowledge, and artistry to begin your professional journey in permanent makeup.

Our most comprehensive and advanced training, this state-accredited 100-hour program meets the national standards set by the American Academy of Micropigmentation (AAM) qualifying graduates to sit for the AAM Board Certification Exam.

Hello and welcome to The Ohio Institute of Permanent Makeup!
I’m Brensha “Shay” Searcy, the founder and director of Ohio’s first and only state-accredited permanent makeup school (License #2273). I created OIPMU with one goal to raise the standard of PMU education in Ohio and empower aspiring artists to turn their passion into a respected, profitable profession.
My journey in the beauty industry began with a deep love for artistry and a desire to help others feel confident in their own skin. Over the years, I noticed a major gap in the industry too many fast-track trainings that left students unprepared and uncertified. That’s why I built OIPMU: to provide a structured, accredited learning experience that blends artistry, science, and business education, so our students graduate not only skilled but confident, licensed, and career-ready.
As an AAM Board-Certified Diamond Trainer and award-winning educator, I’ve been honored to receive titles such as PMU Educator of the Year (2025), Cleveland Chain Reaction $20K Winner, and Cleveland Impact Pitch 1st Place Winner (2024). But my proudest moments are seeing our graduates go on to open their own studios, gain AAM credentials, and change lives through their artistry.

Q: What makes The Ohio Institute of Permanent Makeup different from other training programs?
A; OIPMU is Ohio’s 1st & only permanent makeup school to receive state accreditation by The Ohio State Board of Career Colleges & Schools (Registration #2273) to offer certificate level training programs. We are the only school in the Cleveland area offering students an INCLUDED apprenticeship component after initial classroom training. Our apprenticeships are a standard component and required for successful program completion. We believe that students will be successfully equipped and prepared when they get hands on experience in a supportive environment. We do not require a leasing obligation for students to utilize our training space for bringing in clients after the program.
OIPMU is the only program in Cleveland, Ohio that has a curriculum that has been approved by the American Academy of Micropigmentation.
Your certificate is a real certificate recognized by the state of Ohio as a valid credential from a registered institution of higher learning. Find out why this is important here.
Q: How many students are there per class?
A: To ensure the success of our students we currently only accept 2-3 students per class, this allows the instructor to give undivided attention and assistance throughout the learning process to ensure that proper technique is achieved. Ultimately, this increases learning at a faster rate due to individualized support & attention.
Q: What techniques will be covered in training?
You will learn Powder Ombré Brows & 3D Combination Brows. Other techniques include:
-No Numb Outlining (Pixelated & Solid Outlines)
-String Brow Mapping Technique
-Using bigger needle configurations for Powder Ombre Brows
-Borderless Brows 3RL Technique (Finish Faster with minimal Trauma!)
-Color Corrections & Coverups
-3D Combination Brows (Microblading & Ombré Shading)
Q: Is a training kit included?
A: Of course! You’ll receive a wireless PMU machine & pigment set, numbing plus all of the disposable supplies & needles you’ll need to complete 15+ clients. Our training kits are the best around. You will receive everything you need plus additional goodies in your kit as a bonus. You’ll also receive a training manual, additional guides as well as consent forms and body art exposure control plan that you'll need for licensing - already done for you.
Q: What hours are training days?
5 Day 100hr AAM Program (In Class Hours)
Class begins at 11:00am and ends at 8:00pm. Lunch & snacks are provided on all training days as a convenience for our students.
3 Day 50hr Program (In Class Hours)
Class begins at 11:45am and ends at 6:00pm. Lunch & snacks are provided on all training days as a convenience for our students.
3 Day 30hr Program (In Class Hours)
Class begins at 11:45am and ends at 6:00pm. Lunch & snacks are provided on all training days as a convenience for our students.
(APPRENTICESHIP COMPONENT for 100hr & 50hr programs)
Hours are completed as appointment only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays from 1:30pm-7pm.
